Namba Square is not empty after the lanterns come down. Minami Fes 2026 takes the same plaza, plus Nansan-dori, on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. Hours, stages, and the rain rule sit on the event page. This is the walk from Dotonbori, and why 31 October at the square is a daytime civic fes, not a street-drinking night.
The square after Chimney Town
CHIMNEY TOWN HALLOWEEN packs Namba Square from 15 to 18 October. That set is lanterns and an eyeball wrap. Minami Fes starts thirteen days later on the same concrete. The organiser is the Osaka Activation Project committee. The co-organiser is the Osaka City shopping-street federation. Osaka Prefecture, Osaka City, the Osaka Convention and Tourism Bureau, and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce sit as backers. That is the civic leftover Chimney Town is not.
Chuo ward's Osaka Chushin listing prints 10:00 to 20:00 for the square, 11:30 to 20:00 for the Nansan-dori kitchen-car strip. Light rain goes ahead. Severe weather cancels. Walking in is free. Food and some booths charge. The official site still says line-ups can shift. Use it the morning you go.
Saturday is the canal stage
Dotonbori Kawamo Butai 2026 is the 18:00 Saturday slot on Namba Square. The series started in 2015 as a way to put Minami's stage arts on a free outdoor deck: kamigata mai, OSK revue, bunraku, jazz. 2026 keeps that frame. If that is why you came, be standing in the square by 18:00, not still photographing Glico.
The rest of Saturday is student dance, an idol block, a Nipponbashi concept-shop association stage, a PR set for the retro kissaten show at Parks Museum, and a fringe-fes slot at 16:00. The 11:00 block is labelled Halloween 2026. Chuo ward calls it Osaka Minami's daytime Halloween. It is a stage programme. It is not a licence to drink on Dotonbori-suji. City and police pages have not posted a street-party permit for that night. Do not invent one.
Sunday is yosakoi
The 16th Yosakoi Osaka Tournament takes the square from about 10:45 on 1 November. Teams use the plaza in front of Nankai Namba with naruko in hand. If you only have one day, this is the one people actually photograph. After that: a high-school dance set, an at-home cafe stage, JOYSOUND karaoke at 16:30, fringe fes at 19:00. I would skip the karaoke if the trains home are the constraint. Yosakoi is the reason to stand there.
How to walk it from the canal
Ebisu-bashi to Namba Square is 8 to 12 minutes south on Midosuji or through Namba CITY. Eat on Dotonbori-suji or Hozenji first. Kitchen cars sit on Nansan-dori, not in the square. Prefecture booths for Tokushima, Tottori, Kochi, Saga nori, and Miyazaki chicken are the useful-boring part if you need a sit-down snack without a restaurant wait. Aoki Hamono is selling knives. That stall is the only reason to detour if you already know Doguyasuji.
GREATER NAMBA FESTIVAL is still running 10 October to 15 November as NANKAI's month-long stamp rally at Parks, Tsutenkaku, and Takashimaya. It is a mall wrapper. Minami Fes is the plaza weekend. Do not mix the two on a map pin. Namba Grand Kagetsu is a five-minute walk east if you want a seated show after the square. Book that on FANY before you arrive. The square itself does not take tickets.
