About This Event / イベントについて
The Hozenji Festival is the annual celebration of Hozenji Temple, tucked in a quiet lane in the heart of Dotonbori. It opens with a safety prayer ceremony and kagami-biraki (sake-cask opening) at the moss-covered Fudo-myoo statue, followed by Kamigata rakuto joruri and a bunraku (traditional puppet theater) dedication.
The festival closes with the announcement of the 法善寺川柳 (senryu verse contest) winners. It's a neighborhood celebration — intimate and cultural — that offers a rare free performance of bunraku in the temple's historic setting, steps from the neon of Dotonbori.
