Nishiri is a Kyoto tsukemono (Japanese pickle) house whose Osaka Takashimaya counter brings the flavours of the old capital to the basement food hall of one of Minami's flagship department stores. Founded as a pickle purveyor to Kyoto's discerning households, Nishiri is best known for its senmai-zuke - finely sliced radish pickled in a sweet, mildly tangy blend of kelp and vinegar - which won the Prime Minister's Prize and remains the signature line. The counter also stocks shiba-zuke, suguki, narazuke and seasonal vegetable pickles, all made with vegetables chosen for their compatibility with Kyoto's soft water and distinct seasons. At the Osaka Takashimaya B1F counter, shoppers can buy small single-serve packs, gift sets wrapped in furoshiki cloth and Sanrio collaboration boxes that make charming souvenirs. Nishiri also produces lacto-fermented vegetable soups and dressings, so health-conscious visitors can take home something beyond the classic pickle jar. The counter suits anyone wanting an edible Kyoto memento, a refined gift for hosts back home, or simply a side dish to enliven a hotel-room supper. Tucked among the sashimi stalls and cake counters of the depachika, Nishiri's counter is a pocket of Kyoto tradition in the heart of Osaka. A few sticks of brilliant senmai-zuke on a plate, and your evening instantly feels more considered.Based on 4 Google reviews
