Budget candied fruit on a stick stall near Dotonbori's Higashi-Yagura Building.
The 300 Yen Candied Fruit Shop is a small takeaway stall on Dotonbori's main drag, in the Higashi-Yagura Building near the canal, selling candied fruit on a stick - the classic Japanese street snack known as ichigo-ame (candied strawberry) or, more broadly, fruit-ame. Glazed in a clear, glassy sugar coating and mounted on a skewer, the fruit gleams under Dotonbori's neon and makes for one of the neighbourhood's most photogenic handheld treats. The flat 300-yen price point keeps things simple: pick a fruit, pay, walk. Candied fruit is a staple of Japanese festival stalls and shrine approaches, and a Dotonbori visit is a natural place to try it, with seasonal fruits rotating through the year - strawberries in winter and spring, grapes and mikan in autumn. The stall is purely takeaway, so it pairs well with a stroll along the canal or a photo stop at the Glico sign. It suits families with children, sweet-toothed browsers between meals, and anyone who wants a cheap, cheerful and very Instagrammable snack. Dotonbori is famous for its edible spectacle, and a stick of crackling-sugar fruit is one of the simplest and most satisfying versions of it. Three hundred yen, a crunchy bite, a sugar-high smile - sometimes the smallest stalls give the brightest memories.Operating hours not available
