法善寺参道

Houzen-ji Sandou is the approach to Hozenji Temple, a Jodo-sect Buddhist temple founded in 1637 that sits, almost improbably, in the middle of Namba's brightest entertainment district. The temple is best known for its Fudo Myoo statue, which worshippers have poured water over for generations until it has become completely cloaked in soft green moss - a striking, quietly spiritual sight just steps from the neon of Dotonbori. The approach and the adjoining cobblestone alley, Hozenji Yokocho, keep the atmosphere of old Naniwa with their muted red lanterns, weathered stones and traditional shopfronts. Lining the lane are long-standing kappo restaurants, okonomiyaki counters, kushikatsu specialists and tiny bars, many of them family-run for generations, so a walk here doubles as a mini-tour of Osaka's food culture. It is one of the few places in central Minami where the noise falls away and you can feel the texture of pre-war Osaka, making it a favourite detour for locals and visitors looking for a calmer, more atmospheric interlude between the bigger sights.
