Chicago Gallery is a small, free-to-visit art space located in the Art Park area of the first avenue of Namba Walk, Osaka's lively underground shopping street. It was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Osaka and Chicago, and displays ceramic tile reproductions of famous paintings held by the Art Institute of Chicago, one of America's foremost art museums. The durable ceramic panels allow passers-by to enjoy celebrated works of art in the course of an ordinary shopping trip. The gallery sits within Namba Walk's north-south pedestrian route, which stretches some 715 metres between Nipponbashi and Namba stations, making it easy to drop in while exploring the underground malls, plazas and seasonal events that animate the space throughout the year.
