About This Event / イベントについて
Setsubun marks the traditional last day of winter, when beans are thrown to drive out evil spirits (厄払い) and welcome spring. At Ikutama Shrine — Osaka's oldest — the 節分祭 features a mame-maki (bean-throwing) ceremony, with year-men and year-women (年男・年女) often participating.
It's one of the shrine's key annual observances, completing the Ikutama seasonal calendar alongside the summer and autumn festivals. A short subway ride from Dotonbori, it offers a calm, traditional start to the spring season.
