Macau-born egg tart bakery in Dotonbori, faithful to the original Lord Stow's recipe.
Macau-born egg tart bakery in Dotonbori, faithful to the original Lord Stow's recipe.
Lord Stow's Bakery, operated in Japan by Ken's Papa under the Marron brand, is an egg tart specialist that brought the famous Macau pastry to Osaka around two decades ago. The tarts follow the original recipe developed by Andrew W. Stow at Lord Stow's Bakery in Macau, with crisp flaky pastry holding a generous, egg-rich custard cream. The Dotonbori main store offers the classic original tart alongside matcha-azuki, strawberry and seasonal varieties such as lemon cheese and apple cinnamon tea, with an online shop shipping nationwide. The brand aims to weave the egg tart into everyday Japanese life, much as baumkuchen and waffles have been adopted before it. For a sweet, portable snack that captures a slice of Macau in the middle of Dotonbori, this is a delightful stop. The tarts are best eaten warm, ideally on a bench by the canal.Operating hours not available

Last night, we stumbled upon Lord Stow’s Bakery in Dotonbori. Their egg tarts were a delightful surprise! With a flaky crust and a creamy, custard center, they rivaled the best Pasteis de Nata I've tasted. A must-try for any sweet tooth visiting Osaka.

This bakery had been on my wishlist for long, but little did I know I need to meet the entire Osaka population (yes, I'm a Dotonbori first-timer) just to get to it. I went for desserts after dinner and they still have long lines. …
