Okinawa sanshin music school in Namba, led by Shinya Kuriyama, with free trial lessons for beginners.

The Kuriyama Shinya Okinawa Sanshin Classroom is a music school teaching the Okinawan three-stringed sanshin, with an Osaka Namba branch based in the Osaka Kaihatsu Namba Building at 1-18-8 Nanbanaka. The school is led by Shinya Kuriyama, who trained formally at the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, and it runs branches across the Kansai and Tokai regions including Kyoto, Nagoya, Tsu, Suzuka and Yokkaichi, making it one of the wider sanshin teaching networks outside Okinawa itself. Lessons are built around a "kind and fun" ethos, with patient, fundamentals-first instruction that aims to give students authentic technique that self-taught playing rarely achieves. Around nine in ten students start as complete beginners, including many drawn in by a love of Okinawa, its culture or the instrument's distinctive tone, and the school offers free trial lessons with instruments provided, so newcomers can try before committing to a beginner set of sanshin, bachi, strings and tuner. For anyone in Osaka who has fallen for the sound of the sanshin, the Namba school offers a properly taught, welcoming route into the instrument without a trip to the islands. It is a warm, community-minded classroom that keeps Okinawan musical tradition alive in the heart of the city.
