The jimusho, or temple office, is the administrative heart of Hozenji (法善寺), the Jodo-shu Buddhist temple founded in 1637 that sits tucked into the lanes of Namba near Dotonbori. From here the temple manages daily worship, memorial services, amulets and the upkeep of its most famous feature, the Mizukake Fudo-son statue of Fudo Myoo, which visiting worshippers douse with water and which has grown a thick coat of green moss over the years. The office handles requests for prayers, omamori charms, ofuda tablets and the various ritual services that Hozenji has offered to the people of Minami for centuries. The temple historically served the actors and entertainers of the surrounding theatre district, and it carries a long-standing reputation for answering prayers tied to safe childbirth and women's wellbeing, drawing steady streams of worshippers alongside curious tourists. For visitors who want to do more than simply photograph the mossy statue, the temple office is the place to make a proper offering, collect a charm or enquire about gomafuda services. It is a small, human point of contact with one of Osaka's most quietly resilient institutions.Operating hours not available
