The café has a European atmosphere; the dessert was delicious but a bit too sweet for my palate. The overall vibe was pleasant, though I felt a little out of place being the only solo male sipping tea.

Creperie Alcyon is a crepe and galette speciality shop tucked down a back street of Namba, housed in a distinctive yellow-walled and brick Western-style building dating from 1952. It holds the distinction of being Japan's first authentic French creperie, using carefully selected buckwheat flour for its galettes and French wheat flour, Echire butter and sugar for its sweet crepes sucrees. The interior is full of character, with hand-carved woodwork featuring grape and ribbon motifs crafted by artisans who imagined France as they worked, spread across a kitchen on the ground floor and seating on the second and third floors plus a hidden basement. The menu centres on classic Breton galettes such as the Complete (Gruyere cheese, egg and ham) alongside seasonal specials like the Provence with prosciutto, mozzarella and ratatouille, and sweet crepes for dessert. The salon also offers takeaway iced tea from a specialist tea range and seasonal honey soft serve from the adjoining Atelier Alcyon patisserie. With its warm, cosy atmosphere and a heritage building that can no longer be replicated, it suits anyone wanting a quiet, characterful escape from the Namba crowds. Step inside, let the aroma of butter fill the air, and savour a genuinely French experience that has been a Namba favourite for decades. Creperie Alcyon is a little pocket of Brittany in the heart of Osaka.
