Le Chat Noir is a French-style wine bar in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, run by owner Takeshi Okajo, who trained as a bartender at 19, studied wine and hospitality for two years in France, and holds both a JSA Senior Sommelier qualification and the WSET Level 4 Diploma. The list centres on French bottles but reaches across the world, supported by a concise menu of casual French dishes. The bar has earned repeated recognition in the Star Wine List awards, including a Grand Prix and Best Short List for Japan, a remarkable feat for a compact four-seat counter and sofa room. Opening hours run 4pm to 2am, closed Wednesdays and Sundays. For serious wine in an unbuttoned setting, Le Chat Noir is among Osaka's most credentialed small bars.
